Issue 076: What Can You Accomplish When You’re All In?
"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination. ”
– Tommy LasordaHappy October! Although I had another topic planned for this week’s Bounce-Up Chronicles, I switched it because I’ve been getting numerous emails and texts about the October 2nd event. 😊
As I mentioned in last week’s video episode, my son Josh Rulnick, founder of Zire Nutrition, planned to run a double marathon to raise money for Young Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation (YWBCAF). While other runners supported him by running a five-mile lap or two, Josh was the only one to run all 52.4-miles of this ultra-marathon. Excitement filled the day as we cheered for the runners and posted their hourly progress.
In many ways, this event embodies what Bounce-Up™ is all about. In my Bounce-Up book, I cover how mental drive can accomplish amazing feats. This fundraiser with the double marathon attached to it shows what mental drive can do. Here are two crucial components of mental drive.
Know Your Why: Your “why” is attached to an emotional meaning. The emotional meaning is the heartfelt reason behind the goal that will have you persist regardless of the obstacles you’ll face. The regret of not reaching a goal becomes stronger than any excuse or roadblocks in front of you. One business owner said he’d donate $50 for every 10 miles Josh completed. Another company gave $10 for every mile. If the emotional meaning isn’t strong enough, the drive to accomplish the goal will diminish
Determination Factor: Your determination decides the outcome. Determination defines whether you will continue, at what pace you continue, or if you will give up. The determination factor has a salesperson hitting over-the-top incentive quotas to win the reward, money, or trip. (Ask me how I know. 😊) It’s the determination that has someone pushing what most think is impossible to reach the designated goal.
Several of us, including the founder of YWBCAF, told Josh he didn’t have to complete the double marathon. His answer was, “I’m doing it.” He finished in nine hours and thirty-eight minutes.
Bounce-Up™ Momentum Builders
1. The next time you set a goal, ask “on a scale of 1 to 10, how determined are you to reach this goal?”
2. Is there something you regret not finishing that you could jumpstart?
3. Is your “why” big enough to outpower any obstacle?
