Issue 015: Can a Specific Month be a Jinx?

“I love the person I’ve become because I’ve fought to become her (him).”
    – Kaci Diane

Do you have a month that has more challenges than other months? One that you must be extremely intentional about so that you’re not looking in the rearview mirror recalling past events. Mine is July. This summer month has shaken up my life and turned it upside down more than any other…and more than once.

There are specific dates etched in my mind for two reasons. First, the event itself and second, the events are part of the person I am today just as any adversity you have faced is part of you.

One of these “etched in my head” dates occurred this past weekend. On this very same day, I received a private social media message from a colleague.

Just wanted to share that I spoke with Jane Smith (name changed to protect privacy) and she praised the keynote you gave at the Foundation’s event a few years ago. She and the audience LOVED it.”

That talk was my Bounce-Up™ keynote about resilience with over 400 people in the audience.

Sometimes, we never know why we’re handed these disruptive events that impact our lives. We never know when our setbacks will help or encourage others. If we’re fortunate, we’re open to the signs that give us the reason.

Although July has held adversity, it’s the month that I celebrate by attending a business conference and planning an after-conference trip. Both events are planned with a purpose in mind, as well as keeping me focused on a positive occasion. The conference provides the opportunity for self-development, business knowledge, inspiration, and networking with peers. With the pandemic, the annual celebration trip didn’t happen the exact way I originally planned, though it did happen.

Improvising, I scheduled time with two qualified professionals who could offer their knowledge and perspective about a current business resilience case study I’m researching. (I’ll keep you posted.) Afterward, I hopped in the car for a little day-tripping to Lake Erie, PA.

  1. How has your past developed your strengths?

  2. If you’re struggling, what do you need to put in place to become stronger?

  3. Who can help you get there?
