Issue 117: Are You Sitting on the Bench Unsure What to Do?
This issue in our Circle of Influence series is about the Play-Up Player. When my son played high school basketball, there was an outdoor basketball court about two miles from our house and another about 40 minutes away. One would think he’d drive to the closer one. No. He’d travel the 40 minutes through city traffic to get to a specific court with one goal: to play a pick-up basketball game on the same court as the Division 1 (D-1) college players.
Issue 115: Who Has Climbed the Mountain Before You?
Guess what time it is? In this fourth edition of our Inner Circle series, it’s time to start building your most effective Power Team, aka Circle of Influence. It’s time to be proactive in choosing the people who believe in you, lift you higher, and help you hit your goals.
Your first Inner Circle member is your Mountain Guide.
Issue 114: When You Don't Know Where You're Going, You'll Find Yourself Somewhere Else
Before you can build your inner circle, do you know where you want to go? What’s your purpose or your big hairy audacious goal, aka BHAG? If you don’t know where you’re going, life will create a path that might not be your destination. Sometimes, we end up at a place we never intentionally wanted to go, like I did on a bicycle in Upper Peninsula, MI, during a thunderstorm.
Issue 113: How Often Do You Evaluate Your Inner Circle?
In continuing the Inner Circle series, it’s time to evaluate the “who” factor. During one of my recent workshops, a participant asked, “We’re trying to figure out “How do we identify our inner circle people who can help us reach our goals?” It’s a similar question asked frequently.
Issue 112: Who is Zapping Your Goals?
When was the last time you reviewed the people closest to you? You know, the people you share your ideas, projects, and goals with? Are these people you’ve intentionally included in your circle of influence? Or have they slowly, unintentionally become part of your life?
I’ve mentioned Jim Rohn’s most famous quote: You are the five people you spend the most time with.
We’ve heard it. We’ve acknowledged it.
Issue 111: Is It Time to Stop, Evaluate and Improvise or Adjust?
Now that we’re in the second quarter of 2023, is it a good time to stop for 15 minutes, evaluate your first three months and adjust your action plan?
I’ve coined this three-step system, The Traffic Light Approach, which I share in my keynotes and trainings. I use it for everything, from flipping adversity into positivity and improvising what I must do to hit my goals. And you can, too.
Issue 089: The POWER of Accountability
Last week while presenting Rev Up Your Revenue and Power Team at the ABA Conference in Dallas, I talked about my seven-year accountability partner. Afterward, I had numerous questions from attendees, and it’s a timely topic for January.
Issue 088: Can One Word Change Your Year?
As some of you know from last year’s Chronicles, I choose one word that becomes my word of the year. This #oneword365 needs to be one that can encompass my personal life and professional life because what impacts one impacts the other.
Recently, some colleagues have asked, “How do you decide on a word?”
Issue 085: 12 Goals of 2022
LDo you have a year-end strategy or action plan that you execute at the end of every year so that you can kick off the new year strong?
Since the beginning of December, I’ve carried my 2022 Vision Book, aka spiral journal, everywhere I go. In the evenings, I settle on the sofa with my puppy, Gidget, and reflect and create. I jot snippets of ideas and notes. I enjoy the pen-to-paper action and research shows when you write it down, you make it happen. The Vision Book is my think tank to create the bigger picture. You know the view from 64,000 feet.
Issue 067: How do you celebrate an important milestone?
How do you celebrate milestones? Your milestone could be a personal, professional, or business one. And when global events cancel your celebration, how do you move forward?
Like many people, my out-of-the-country destination, the "healthy milestone celebration," has been postponed for the past two years. In 2020, I replaced the trip with a fun "8 Days of Ireland" celebration. But, this year, I wanted to do something entirely different, yet I didn't know what…until my annual visit with my surgeon.
Issue 066: Why This Customer Appreciation Event Rocked It!
Have you attended a customer appreciation event that seemed more like a sales pitch for a new product or service than a genuine way to thank the customers? Or maybe, after you’ve hosted an event, you realized you missed an opportunity to connect with your clients?
In Issue 66, hear the proactive signs of a fantastic customer appreciation event hosted by Design Inspirations owner Kathleen Kirby.
Issue 065: When Fear Almost Stopped Me + What I Would Have Lost
Over the past week, my Facebook Memories have featured significant moments. July is one month that holds heartbreaking trials, as well as heartwarming triumphs.
When I received my cancer diagnosis in 2016, I set a goal to attend NSA Influence 2017, the premier event for speakers. The four-day conference would be my celebration for making it halfway through the unexpected journey. The doctors and surgeon warned me I probably wouldn’t make it because I would be hospitalized from the treatment’s severity.
Issue 064: 3 Signs to Tell If You’re a Changemaker or Not!
Have you ever noticed how some people jump in and make it happen? You probably know a person or two who does, and it could be you. Yet, others sit on the sideline, waiting for someone to take the lead. As a second part to the Brittany story shared last week, in this short video (5 min.), you’ll hear three ways to identify who is not a changemaker and who could be a changemaker. Being a changemaker doesn’t require grand gestures. It’s the proactive steps taken to make change happen or to flip unexpected events into positive ones.
Issue 063: Are You a Changemaker?
Can one person be a changemaker? This six-word question can ignite various negative and positive responses.
Last week I had a call with a conference chair from a leading healthcare system looking for an inspiring presentation, yet it had to be fun with learning objective takeaways, too. (Yes, I have the right keynote to hit each point.) As we were diving into organizational challenges, I shared one story that resonated.
Issue 062: Meet Mr. Dial-Up, Mr. Just One More, and Mr. Toolman
What happens when you have three weeks of construction vehicles working in front of your office window? You tie the event to this week’s short video (under 8 min.) that unexpectedly connected to our Toxic People Series. You’ll hear three fun analogies related to people who could be in your Inner Circle, aka Power Team, but might not be in your corner. Meet Mr. Dial-Up, Mr. Just One More, and Mr. Toolman. And yes, they could be Ms., too.
Issue 061: Don’t Let Toxic People Get You Down!
In this final topic, it’s all about Transmitting Your Positive Emotions to Override Toxic Energy.
Sometimes it’s hard to keep your chin up after encountering a toxic person because emotions are contagious. Negative emotions include fear, anger, disgust, sadness, rage, complaints, and annoyance, to name a few. The stronger the emotion someone feels, and the longer they talk about it, the more contagious they are because they infect their negativity on you. When we allow our emotions to swing into the negative column, we’ve caught the toxic vibes the other person threw out.
Issue 060: Can You Tame a Toxic Conversation?
Guarding your positive attitude is crucial to success. Consider this: Optimistic sales pros outperform pessimists with better selling skills by 57 percent. Mindset is everything.
It can be hard to taper time with peers, challenging customers, and relatives. So, what can we do when we can’t taper our time with them? First, we can tame toxic conversations.
Issue 059: Is it time for a toxic audit?
Does summertime put a little extra zip in your step? Does it feel like the season of growth to you? Summer feels like a great time to think about what works and to access what doesn't. So let's start with the people. If you're like me, I've love to say that every person in my network exudes positivity. Well, it is a goal. 😊
Issue 058: This #1 Enemy Can Sabotage You
Life is looking good with many restrictions lifted. Yay! However, to grow and move forward, sometimes we need to go back. Most of us had actions we wanted to take but couldn’t due to the mandates. In this short video (under 5 min.), let’s talk about what your choice will be now that we’re turning a corner.
Issue 057: What’s Your “If only,” “When,” or “I can’t”?
Life is looking good with many restrictions lifted. Yay! However, to grow and move forward, sometimes we need to go back. Most of us had actions we wanted to take but couldn’t due to the mandates. In this short video (under 5 min.), let’s talk about what your choice will be now that we’re turning a corner.
