“Emotions can get in the way or get you on the way.”
    – Mavis Mazhura

Have you read a social post that brought a smile because you knew somewhere along the way you had a part in making someone’s goal come true? Over the weekend, one of my former private clients, a young insurance agent, posted that he and his wife were expecting their second child. When we started working together, I asked, “What do you want to achieve by working with me that you can’t do on your own?”

“I want to increase my book of business so I can get engaged next year. Before I get engaged, I want to have enough money for a down payment on a house.”

Although his monthly book of business was around $20,000 at the time, he had the three core elements I talk about in my presentations.

How many times have you heard, “You need a goal?”  You rolled your eyes and mumbled, “No shiplap. Tell me something I don’t know.” Perhaps, you’ve set your goal, and then day by day, it slowly slipped away until your goal never surfaced in your thoughts. Without emotional investment in the goal, it turned into a done deal before you ever started. When you don’t have enough skin in the game, you can’t overcome distractions and setbacks.

Young Agent’s Bounce-Up™ Momentum Builder
The young agent had staying-power because he had the three elements of conviction.

  • Doable goal: He needed to increase his book of business to $150,000 a month.

  • Emotional meaning: He wanted to buy a home and get engaged.

  • Mental drive: His determination was strong enough that he hired a sales coach to help him.

His conviction enabled him to push fear, setbacks, and distractions aside. His conviction drove him to learn the techniques he needed to increase his sales. He had the three core elements tomake it happen.

Your Bounce-Up™ Momentum Questions
Think about one of your goals that faded away.

  1. Did the goal cause an emotional reaction from you?

  2. Did you outline your goal with specifics, such as deadline and dollar amount?

  3. What element do you think wasn’t strong enough for the long haul?

One last thought, youcanmake-it-happen and Bounce-Up™

Until next time, have aBounce-Up™day.
